A Note for the Moon

When the Sun’s rein

has ended and the ink night sky fades in,

the moon in all her beauty shines a glowing silver light.

She commands the waves,

She rules the night,

and lives a dozen lifetimes when we ourselves live a year.

O moon in all your divinity, may you shine brightly down upon me

so I may shine just as brightly amongst the sparkling stars.

I wrote the poem above when I went to Kenya last year to spend New Years with M. It was such an adventure. I was treated to so much culture and wonder and I will be forever grateful to him for inviting me to his home so early into our relationship. During the holiday, M surprised me with a trip to Tsavo East National Park where we saw the most beautiful sites this world has to offer. The picture below was the sunset that inspired the poem.
